“My Brother” by Karin Smirnoff becomes a TV series on SVT
SVT now confirms that “Jag for ner till bror” will be a four-episode TV series based on Karin Smirnoff’s novel of the same name. The series will be filmed in Norrbotten starting in February 2025 and with a planned premiere in late autumn 2025.
Sanna Lenken – who has previously been the main director of “Thin Blue Line” and made the SVT miniseries “Pressure Point” – will direct the four episodes. Karin Arrhenius, who most recently wrote the series “Blackwater”, has written the script.
– “It will be an exciting challenge to bring Karin Smirnoff’s original and fantastic novel to life. I will do everything I can to manage the story and make it as moving as the novel, says Sanna Lenken in a comment.
There are no confirmed details yet about the actors who will be part of the show’s main ensemble.
SVT describes the drama series “My Brother” as an “exciting and strongly moving story”. It centres on the character Jana Kippo, who returns to her home village in Västerbotten after many years to save her alcoholic twin brother.
In a world filled with old memories and hidden secrets, Jana falls in love with a man who allegedly killed his wife Maria, the woman who was also her brother’s great love. But who was Maria, whom Jana had never heard of before? And how did she really die? The more involved Jana becomes, the more she is forced to confront her own repressed memories of her childhood.
“My Brother” is produced by Filmlance in a co-production with SVT and Filmpool Nord. Anna Wallmark is the series producer at Filmlance, which is part of Banijay. The executive producer at SVT is Amna Maksumic. Nordisk Film is responsible for international distribution.
